Natasha O. Morgan of Conway Christian School is among more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors who have been designated semifinalists in the 43rd annual Achievement Scholarship competition.
She will continue in the competition vying for approximately 800 scholarships worth about $2.5 million.
Academically, Morgan is ranked second in her senior class. She is editor of the 2006-2007 CCS yearbook, a varsity athlete in basketball and softball, the school's 2006 delegate to Girls State and a three-year member of the school choir.
Last summer she attended the annual summer writing program at Carleton College on a full scholarship.
A pianist and vocal soloist, she is the daughter of Dr. JoAnne Morgan, an art history professor at Coastal Carolina University.
The semifinalists must fulfill several additional requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. All Achievement Scholarship winners will be selected from the finalist group based on abilities, accomplishments and potential for success in college.
