April 7, 2008

Dear Parents and friends of CCS,

Spring is finally upon us as we approach the final quarter of this school year. We are all thankful for the rest this Easter Break has given us, and we are truly thankful that we can celebrate the glorious news of our Savior. What a wonderful gift it is to be in an environment where we truly learn about our loving Heavenly Father! As we enter the final months of the school year, I want to share with you some of the many exciting things happening at Conway Christian School.

Our Spring Banquet was our most successful yet with a total to date of $23,000. We want to thank our sponsors who so graciously gave this year, and to all our families and guest, we want to thank you for your financial support for this spring event.

Conway Christian students are to be applauded for their achievements in this yearŐs SCACS Lowcountry Fine Arts Festival. Many of our elementary students received Superiors in math, science, history, and English as well as in piano and voice. 6th grader Ethan Jacobs was show cased at the festivals conclusion which is quite an accomplishment. This was also our first year to compete in Elementary Choir and Elementary Hand Chimes with our choir receiving a certificate for excellence and our hand chimes group receiving a superior certificate. We are proud of our young students along with the efforts of their music instructors Mrs. Inman, Mrs. Timms, and Ms. Myers.

Our middle and high school students competed in the state wide SCACS Festival in Columbia and were extremely successful as well. Ian Jackson and Andrea Wright placed 3rd and 2nd in the Spelling Bee; Margaret Duncan, female vocal solo, and Weber Barker, male vocal solo, placed first and will compete in the National Competition next week. Margaret Duncan took first place in Advanced Math, Michael Frost took first place in Biology, and Jonathan Lewis took first place in creative writing poetry and in Old Testament Bible. These first place winners will also compete in the National Competition. Many of our other middle and high school students received Superior and Excellent awards as well. Congratulations to all our students who participated this year.

Keenan Lineback, who is a member of our freshman class, will be representing the United States in France this May as a member of the US Surf Team at the World Junior Surfing Championship. Her coach cited her strengths of character and humbleness as strong factors in her being selected at such a young age.

Lastly, Stanford Testing will begin on April 14 for first through ninth grades and our seniors, parents, and a few faculty will be leaving that day for the Christian Heritage Tour of Europe.

We are very blessed to have such wonderful students and we ask that you be in prayer for them daily, especially those who will be traveling and representing our school. Our ministry to these students and their families are important to us and we thank you for all your support and encouragement.

In Him,
Connie Smith

Kristen Floyd

The faculty, staff, and students of Conway Christian School express their deepest sympathy and love for the family of Kristen Floyd, a member of the Class of 2007, in the wake of her loss on September 12. We look to the great God of all comfort to draw close to us all.
